Cartagena, September 4, 2024 During the opening of Andicom 2024, the ICT Minister, Mauricio Lizcano, presented the National Observatory of Information and Communication Technologies (Ontic) to 6,000 attendees. In this portal, users will be able to access management indicators, information on Ministry programs, maps, bulletins, sector studies and research, providing a complete and updated view of connectivity, innovation ecosystems and the technological landscape of the country.

We wanted to launch this tool within the framework of Andicom because this is such a representative event for the industry. With this tool you can know where the antennas are, how connectivity is increasing, and it has an advantage, and that is that with Google we managed to use artificial intelligence to serve the ICT sector. We are doing things, we are advancing not only in Connectivity, Education and Innovation, we are making Colombia move forward. I invite you to continue working to consolidate that digital country that we all dream of ,” said the ICT Minister, Mauricio Lizcano (@MauricioLizcano).

The portal presents relevant news and events in the country’s digital agenda, tools to analyze the impact of ICT on the economy, and interactive and updated geospatial data.

Ontic had an investment of one billion pesos, and will allow Colombia to advance towards an era of decisions based on precise data, led by a team of experts in engineering, data science, analysts, cadastral engineers and geodesists.

Entering www.ontic.mintic.gov.co   Interested parties will be able to find seven key sections:

  • Digital Development Indicators: This will serve to monitor Colombia’s progress in 11 key categories, from connectivity to Artificial Intelligence. Each metric reflects the pulse of the country’s digital progress.
  • Institutional Offer: Shows detailed statistics on the programs, projects and initiatives of the ICT Ministry.
  • Geoportal: Tool to explore the connectivity landscape in Colombia through interactive maps. From Internet coverage to the deployment of operators, each point on the map reveals the digital reality of each region of the country.
  • Publications: A knowledge repository that includes newsletters, studies and other content from the ICT sector since 2019.
  • Topics of Interest: This section connects with news from the sector.
  • Data Catalog: Access to microdata and metadata that feed the portal’s indicators. With download options and tools for interpretation, such as data dictionaries.
  • Macro Topics: Shows the most relevant aspects of the ICT sector, including the measurement of the economic and social impact of technology. With comparative analysis of Latin America, the United States, Europe, and measurements such as the digital divide index.

With this portal, the entity marks a milestone in the management and analysis of data for the digital development of the country, strengthening the Government’s capacity to impact effective strategies that reduce the gap in access and use of technological tools and turn Colombia into a true Digital Power.

The ICT Ministry will continue to be present at Andicom 2024, inviting citizens to visit the stand, located at the trade show, a space to learn more about the free institutional offer and interact with AIda, the entity’s artificial intelligence, as well as ‘Potencia’, a guide robot that provides detailed information about the Ministry.
