The technology that every self-propelled sprayer takes into the field is quite impressive. From cabs equipped with the latest precision ag solutions, to liquid systems that support crop safety and minimize waste, there’s seemingly an endless array of technological advancements in every facet of today’s sprayer models.
AGCO Achieve better control and better outcomes through Boom Height Systems and PWM technologies, the company says. OptiHeight is AGCO’s solution to providing better coverage by hitting the target. The radar-style system quickly adjusts to variable terrain while maintaining proper boom height. Drift, speed changes, and irregular fields are no longer a challenge for crop protection. OptiPulse delivers best-in-class coverage by maintaining droplet size and pressure while giving operators peace of mind. It allows operators to focus on more critical tasks and ensure cleaner fields free from disease, pests, and weeds.
Precision Planting SymphonyNozzle is an upgrade for nearly all existing sprayers that offers independent control of rate and pressure of products being applied, maintaining consistent spray quality. Enabled by Precision Planting’s 20|20, prescriptions and boundaries, swath control limits overapplication, reducing waste. A lineup of camera products is in beta testing now and will hit the market soon to add guidance, crop scouting, and targeted spray applications through SymphonyNozzle.
Precision Planting ReClaim, a boom recirculation system, is easily installed on any existing sprayer to save time and product. With the flip of a switch, quickly and effectively cleanout the boom to prevent cross contamination of products. ReClaim works with traditional nozzles and now includes a version optimized for PWM nozzles.
PTx Trimble The PTx Trimble Field-IQ ISOBUS Advanced Sprayer solution is designed with retrofit in mind for maximum customization of advanced spraying machines. With ISOBUS, farmers experience a one-time setup through a new PC-based cloud configuration tool with settings that stay with the implement, reducing downtime and ensuring the greatest net farm income (NFI), the company says. An extensive feature set is available with rate, section and frame control features managed through any major third-party display. The power of ISOBUS is in its ability to control any machine, regardless of brand, make or model, providing advanced technology for current equipment to reduce input costs and improve the bottom line.
PTx Trimble WeedSeeker 2 is PTx Trimble’s next-generation, green-on-brown spot spray system — designed to provide retrofit selective spraying functionality to your existing sprayer. When a weed passes underneath the WeedSeeker 2 sensor, the linked spray nozzle is signaled to turn on and precisely deliver herbicide to kill the weed, reducing the amount of chemical applied by up to 90%. This means farmers see immediate cost savings on chemical bills without slowing down, not to mention fewer weeds with chemical resistance and more high yielding-crops. Simply put, WeedSeeker 2 saves you money, reduces the presence of resistant weeds, and maximizes your crop yielding potential, the company says.
Case IH Achieve optimized spray application with AIM Command FLEX II advanced spray technology for the best possible chance at maintaining your ideal chemical application rate, pressure, and accuracy, the company says. With individual nozzle on/off control, this advanced technology ensures efficient, precise application — regardless of speed or terrain. AIM Command FLEX II technology effectively compensates for different speeds across the boom to ensure correct application rate based on speed, nozzle position on the boom and turn radius. For superior accuracy, AutoBoom XRT automatic boom height control detects changes in terrain and automatically adjusts the boom to maintain a consistent, level height above the ground. Experience enhanced AIM Command FLEX II capabilities with the new all-aluminum 120-foot boom with factory-installed Boom Recirculation, which increases efficient application when you are ready to spray and helps conserve extra product by reclaiming it to the tank. AIM Command FLEX II and AutoBoom XRT are available as a factory-equipped option on all Patriot 50 series sprayers and Trident 5550 liquid/dry combination applicators.
John Deere John Deere ExactApply nozzle control systems help ensure solution gets to the crop at exactly the right rate and droplet size across a wider range of speeds. ExactApply is a six-nozzle turret with multiple modes of operation that helps maintain target rate and pressure and is available as a factory-installed option, or as a retrofit to Deere 400, 600, and 4 Series Sprayer models. All model years of Deere R4030, R4038, R4044, R4045, and R4060 Sprayers can be upgraded to include ExactApply intelligent nozzle control. ExactApply performance upgrade kits are compatible with steel and carbon fiber booms. Additionally, the sprayer requires stainless-steel plumbing and nozzle spacing of 15 or 20 inches. ExactApply performance upgrade kits are compatible with the John Deere GreenStar 3 2630 Display, 4600 CommandCenter Display, and the 4640 Universal Display. By maintaining a target rate and pressure over a wide range of speeds, ExactApply can cover up to 20 more acres per hour (based on a 2-mph increase in operating speed) with more consistent spray deposition, saving on input costs and preserving more of the crop’s yield potential, the company says.
John Deere John Deere See & Spray Premium technology provides farmers more than 50% herbicide savings and is available via factory install on select John Deere and Hagie sprayers, or as a Precision Upgrade kit for model year 2018 or newer John Deere sprayers, the company says. See & Spray Premium delivers cleaner fields and better yields with a vision system powered by artificial intelligence to help farmers gain cost efficiency and combat herbicide resistance with precise application by only spraying the weeds and not the entire field. The technology targets weeds in corn, soybean, cotton, and fallow fields. In addition, the sprayer can be used all season long to make broadcast applications at standard operating speeds. See & Spray Premium utilizes advanced stability provided by John Deere’s BoomTrac Pro 2.0 to stabilize the sprayer boom as cameras mounted to the boom capture images of the field. Using a machine learning model, images captured by the cameras differentiate weed from crop. Once a weed is detected, a command is sent to the necessary ExactApply nozzle bodies to spray. See & Spray Premium can also generate a weed pressure map for the field in the John Deere Operations Center. The sprayers must have a factory-installed ExactApply system or ExactApply Precision Upgrade Kit with 15- or 20-inch spacing and a 120-foot steel boom.
John Deere John Deere Individual Nozzle Control Pro nozzle technology is a Precision Upgrade kit helping farmers get section widths down to the individual nozzle turret and turn compensation by individual nozzles, saving money and increasing the accuracy of the overall application. Building upon proven hardware, Individual Nozzle Control Pro technology adds 15 Hz pulse width modulation to a five-nozzle body turret. This upgrade option allows accuracy of nozzle control down to the individual nozzle, reducing overlap and over-spraying that leads to a reduction in overall chemical usage and overapplication. John Deere model year 2008 and newer 4730/4830, 4 Series, and 400R/600R Series sprayers are compatible for this technology.
Diamond Mowers The Integrated Boom Control (IBC) system was created to give the operator single-hand control, enhanced safety features, and an optional, industry-leading Smart Screen — making this boom control system more capable than ever, the company says. The IBC Joystick, although not compatible with certain tractor models, is built into a custom armrest and provides full control of the machine, as well as an emergency stop button, right at the operator’s fingertips. The IBC Smart Screen is available as an upgrade option that tracks and feeds data, provides detailed diagnostics for troubleshooting in the field, and allows the operator to customize boom speeds and joystick sensitivity. Finally, the custom armrest includes five adjustment locations and allows the user to position the joystick for their preferred operating style.
And the spray boom is no exception. View a sampling of how manufacturers are delivering the latest tech accessories, parts, and components to help you apply products more effectively in the slideshow above.
