St. Bonaventure Basketball Returns To Terrestrial Radio With Expanded Bonnies Online Network Coverage
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Broadcasts of St. Bonaventure basketball will be available online and over the air during the 2024-25 season as St. Bonaventure Athletics announces a partnership with WBRR 100.1 FM “The Hero” to bring games back to terrestrial radio in addition to streaming through the Bonnies Online Network.
Once again this season, every Bonnies men’s basketball game will stream live worldwide through the Bonnies Online Network which launched last season. In its first year, the Bonnies Online Network produced 34 men’s basketball broadcasts attracting over 48,000 listeners.
While fans near and far will be able to listen to the games live through their devices of choice via the Bonnies Online Network again for free, those in the Southern Tier and Northwestern Pennsylvania will also have the option of listening on terrestrial radio through The Hero, located in Bradford, Pa.
This season, the Bonnies Online Network will expand its coverage for the 2024-25 campaign to include all women’s basketball broadcasts as well.
The Hero will air all St. Bonaventure men’s basketball games as well as select women’s games through its broadcast footprint including Cattaraugus and McKean Counties. All broadcasts will include pre-and-post-game shows in addition to the head coach Mark Schmidt and Jim Crowley shows.
“We are delighted to be adding the unbeatable thrill of Bona’s basketball to 100.1 The Hero’s programming lineup,” said Director of Programming Dan “Igor” Griffin. “The Hero is the only station in the Twin Tiers that our massive – and growing – listener base can turn to for the best variety of classic and modern rock along with premium sports broadcasts like Buffalo Bills Football and now, St. Bonaventure Basketball.”
Gary Nease, the “Voice of the Bonnies,” will again provide the play-by-play with his 30th year on the mic for the Bonnies men’s games. Chris Russell returns to play-by-play duties for the women’s broadcasts, a role he previously served for several seasons on WGWE.
“We are extremely excited to return St. Bonaventure Basketball to terrestrial radio,” said St. Bonaventure Vice President and Director of Athletics Bob Beretta. “We understand how critical it is to provide a variety of options for fans to consume our product. We also know how valuable it is to our fans to be able to listen to our postgame shows on their car radios upon leaving the Reilly Center following a Bonnies contest. We are so grateful to Don and Dan and the leadership at 100.1 The Hero for their willingness to partner with our Athletic Department on this important venture. We look forward to bringing our men’s and women’s basketball broadcasts to the region via 100.1 The Hero.”
“The Hero and our sister station B107.5 have been a local family-owned business since 1947 with a longstanding commitment to serving our community and championing the many great businesses that make up our area’s economy,” said station General Manager Don Fredeen. “Partnering with the St. Bonaventure University Athletics Department to carry Bonnies basketball allows us to offer high-profile, traffic-driving sponsorship and advertising opportunities to help the many businesses in our area reach an even greater audience.”
Select women’s basketball broadcasts will again be provided through WSBU 88.3 “The Buzz” with St. Bonaventure student announcers on the call as well.
In addition to men’s basketball, the Bonnies Online Network produced live contests for baseball, softball, men’s lacrosse, and women’s lacrosse in addition to numerous podcast episodes covering nine different sports last year. The Bonnies Online Network will continue to expand its live event coverage of Bona’s Athletics through the spring while all BON podcasts can be found at GoBonnies.com/Podcasts or wherever podcasts are found by searching ‘Bonnies Online Network.’
